What you can expect

With the past title of NZ’s Most loved Beach, Ōhope Beach is the ideal summer destination for beach lovers. With an 11-kilometre stretch of white sand, Ōhope Beach is known for its plentiful sunshine and warmer waters. Located in the Bay of Plenty’s Whakatāne District, Ōhope Beach is filled with things to do. There are various walking trails around the beach that provide beautiful views and learn about this beautiful region. The Nga Tapuwae o Toi (Footprints of Toi) is a popular trail that encompasses all of the historically significant sights in the area, native forest, spectacular coastal views and wildlife encounters. Ōhope Beach is a dog-friendly beach, allowing dogs to run around off their leash, however all dogs must be kept under control and cleaned up after and aren’t allowed on the dunes or on any part of the Nga Tapuwae o Toi walking trail. Other popular activities in the area include cycling, surfing, stand up paddle boarding and sailing.
